“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
for to you I entrust my life.”
— Psalm 143:8 (NIV)
There is something about this verse that feels especially fitting at the beginning of a new day. David isn’t asking to know everything that lies ahead. He is simply asking God to show him the way he should go.
I think that is something most of us can understand. There are times when I would like to see the whole road ahead—to know how something will work out or what the right decision will be. But most of the time, life doesn’t work that way.
What stands out to me is what comes before the request for direction: “for I have put my trust in you.”
Maybe that is where direction begins. Not with having every answer, but with deciding where I will place my trust.
Some mornings, that may be enough: Lord, I don’t know exactly where today will take me. Just show me the way I should go.
