“The LORD your God is with you,
the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.”— Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)
The part of this verse that makes me pause is the thought of God taking delight in His people. I can understand His power. His patience and mercy have become more personal to me over the years. But the thought of Him rejoicing over His people with singing is something I want to sit with.
Zephaniah spoke these words as a promise of restoration to Israel. They reveal something about the heart of the God who saves.
In everyday life, it’s easy to focus on what still needs fixing, including in ourselves. I know how quickly I can return to that way of thinking.
Then I read a verse like this and remember the grace I’ve received through Jesus. There is room to rest in His love, even while I’m still learning to understand it.
