Yikes! I have not written anything in quite a while.  Well, the “Reader’s Digest” explanation is that life has a way of taking you in many directions at once and can often be very complicated. If you know where I am coming from – then raise your hand; if not, then kudos to you – I’m not on that street yet! That being said, I wanted to share with you some points from a great message that was presented today at my church.

Our Pastor put the following quote, by Futurist Ray Kurzweil, up on the screen:  “People think the world’s getting worse, and we see that on the left and the right, and we see that in other countries. People think the world is getting worse. … What’s actually happening is our information about what’s wrong in the world is getting better. A century ago, there would be a battle that wiped out the next village, you’d never even hear about it. Now there’s an incident halfway around the globe and we not only hear about it, we experience it.”  Article

Then our Pastor asked for an honest response, by a show of hands, to the question “Do you believe the world is actually getting worse?” – The majority of people in attendance raised their hands with an affirming Yes! Truth be told – I was one of them!  Our Pastor continued to convey that Yes, although our world does have its share of enormous problems, disasters, and tragedies,  that  maybe in this information age, as Kurzweil suggests, we are just more aware of it.

He further suggested and made the greater point, that perhaps we, as a society, have a tendency to only talk about, complain about, and propagate the problems and what’s wrong with this world, instead of what’s right.  Moreover,  rather than being part of the problem, we should do our part towards becoming part of a solution and thereby part of what is good in this world.

This was only a part of the theme of a message that was shared today by our Pastor, but it not only inspired me to share it with you, it also inspired me to focus on and do my part towards adding to what is good with our world and doing something positive to make it better.
