Attitude is Everything

Is ATTITUDE really everything? Is it contagious? Is it the secret to success? Most successful people will answer that question with a resounding YES! But, what about you? I have found in my own life, that whenever my attitude starts to become negative my whole day can spiral downward and things begin to fall apart. But, I have also learned that when my attitude does begin to go south, there is only one person to blame…ME! Your attitude, good or bad, is a choice that you and only you can make. There will always be negative people, situations, or circumstances in your life, but you get to CHOOSE how they affect your attitude.

So how do you change your attitude? You have to change the way you view the circumstance that is triggering a bad attitude. In the Bible in Ephesians, we are given some key instruction on how to do this. It says, “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off the old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds.” Even in the Bible it’s clear that first you have to change “old ways” and then you have to change the way you think about it.

Pastor Charles Swindoll expresses the influence attitude has on your life this way: “The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company… a church… a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our Attitudes.”
