It’s Monday So Now What?

Ok, it is the day after Easter Sunday. So, you may be thinking, what was the significance for me and did it really affect me personally? Yes, there was that Jesus story, but what about the great meal with family or friends and then all those great desserts and well, the jelly beans and all that other stuff, you know, the Easter bunny and little chicks and the peeps. Well, if I am going to be honest with you, that sort of was how I used to view Easter. I mean I would sometimes go to church on Easter Sunday, but it never truly had an impact on me. I am ashamed to say it now, but when my friends and I would joke about what faith we were, we would say we were Chreasters, meaning we were Christmas and Easter church goers and not much else. And then something changed. Not to get into a whole long drawn out story, but one day “by chance” I heard a guy on the radio and it opened my eyes. If you want to know more about my story, you can click here. I started to read the Bible and began to gain a greater understanding of how it applied to my life. And since then, it has been a slow process, but my life has changed.

One thing I learned is that God isn’t looking for some perfect person and that ALL of the characters of significance in the Bible were broken people (like me). In my about me page, I tell you a little about myself and as I have studied the Bible, I have learned that if Jesus were here today, he would be among people like me and my friends. What do I mean? Well here is one example, many firemen (not all-so stand down if you don’t fall into this category!) like to have a few beers, including me, and wouldn’t necessarily always have the best vocabulary on the job. I have since tried very hard to keep the beers to a minimum and cut out the bad language. But my point is, the more I read, the more I believe – Jesus brought His message to the common people, not perfect people, and because of that was accused by the Priests of His day, of associating with sinners. Let me give you an example: In Matthew, this is what was said about Jesus, The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, “Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.” And also in Matthew: But when the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with such scum?” And this was Jesus’ response: When Jesus heard this, he said, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do.” Then he added, “Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.” The more I read passages like this and other passages about how different Jesus was compared to the norm of society, the more I believed.

So what does this mean to you? Well, first I believe if you are reading this it is for a reason. This Easter is more than another commercialized holiday and then back to the usual grind of life. Jesus brought His message to the common people. He knows we are not perfect and that we never will be, but it’s never been about what we can do for Him. Here is what the Bible says about it: Here I am! (GOD) I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. Second, I always tell anyone I talk to about God, It is a choice – your choice! As I say in my site & me page, this is the path I took, maybe it’s not your path, but I also say this is what gave me the best view of life. Again, you can decide.

So, if you are searching, I would suggest you read your Bible and I would also suggest reading either a New Life or New Living translation – these versions are translated in more common understandable language. But again, you will have to decide for yourself. Check out the video below it highlights why we need HIM.
